A Time to Help Creates Educational Kits at Arts & Scraps

Led by S.A.Y. Detroit founder Mitch Albom and his radio show partner, Ken Brown, nearly 40 volunteers from A Time to Help spent Saturday morning (Feb. 17) at the Arts & Scraps Warehouse in Detroit, where the group participated in an “Education Reimagined’’ project.

For more than two hours, volunteers cut donated swimsuit fabric into squares for STEM educational kits that will be used in schools across metro Detroit. Arts & Scraps uses recycled materials to help people of all ages and abilities to think, create and learn. ATTH’s next project is tentatively scheduled for March 24 at one of the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries’ homeless shelters, where volunteers will embark on a painting project. Registration for that event will begin the first week of March here.

A Time to Help Reimagine Education with Arts & Scraps – February 2018

Arts & Scraps is a Detroit nonprofit that uses recycled industrial materials to help people of all ages and abilities to think, create and learn. Arts & Scraps serves 275,000 children and recycles 28 tons annually. ATTH will be preparing materials and packing kits for classrooms and individuals at the Arts & Scraps’ warehouse.

Date: Saturday, February 17, 2018

Time: 9 am – 12:00 p.m.

Location: 16135 Harper, Detroit, MI, 48224 | Map

Parking: Arts & Scraps is located at the corner of Bedford and Harper. Park in the community parking lot (look for the wrought iron fence and white globe lights). The project will take place across the street, in the warehouse, one block from the main building. ATTH will have a couple of volunteers posted outside to help guide you.

Attire/Other Info:  Wear comfortable clothing. All materials for assembling the classroom kits will be provided.
