S.A.Y. Detroit Family Health Clinic
In December of 2008, S.A.Y. Detroit and the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries opened the nation’s first free medical clinic devoted to homeless children and their mothers. The clinic provides examinations, maintenance and preventive healthcare, including immunizations, diabetes screening, and blood pressure testing. Open six days a week, it utilizes a staff of physicians and nurse practitioners, many of whom volunteer their time, in the areas of: pediatrics, gynecology, internal medicine, podiatry, physical therapy, psychiatric services and nutrition. Accepting patients from all over the Detroit area, the clinic currently sees close to 7,000 patients a year who are in desperate need of healthcare.

- Over half a million people in Detroit remain uninsured, and nearly 100,000 of them children under the age of 10.
- With little or no finances and inadequate access to information and transportation, too many children are denied basic health care.
- Parents of homeless children are often reluctant to take their children to hospitals out of shame or fear that their children will be taken away.
A free clinic, we receive all financial support from organizations and individuals who care about the lives of the underserved. We receive no government funding and cannot fulfill our mission without your help. We need monetary funds as well as volunteer support and welcome any support you can give. Corporations can help us by organizing fund raising events, donating equipment and supplies, and coordinating volunteer events for facility and personnel needs that we have. Please donate or apply to volunteer and feel free to contact us directly to work with your organization if you are interested in an event. We thank you for your compassion.
