Emmanuel, 'Manno'Age 17
Manu, known as Manno by the other children, is a young man with few words! He often avoids conversations because of his speech impediment, but forgets all about being shy when it comes to hands-on activities. Manno loves cooking, but enjoys eating the finished product even more! When Manno puts on his apron, it is almost like watching one of the chefs on the Cooking Channel. He pretends he has an audience in front of him and walks around the kitchen with pride. Manno has also been the top student in his class for the past three years.
The goal of the mission is to provide a safe, nurturing environment for Haitian children who do not have one. Children are cared for medically, nutritionally, educationally and spiritually. They are taught in both French and English, with a goal of achieving at least a high school diploma. Christian prayer and guidelines are a part of their daily life, as is a sense of giving back to the mission though work and responsibility.
